#GothicGameDay: #NJCUWSoccer Hosts Ramapo in NJAC Opener

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The New Jersey City University women's soccer team will kick off the New Jersey Athletic Conference portion of their 2018 season on Saturday, September 15 at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field. The game will take place at 3:00 p.m. and will feature the Gothic Knights (3-2) versus the Ramapo College Roadrunners (1-4).
 
The Knights are fresh off a pair of victories earlier this week, defeating York College 7-0 on the road on Monday, and topping Cedar Crest by a final score of 3-1 at home on Wednesday. The Knights are now 2-2 at home this season and winless in their lone road game of 2018.
 
The Roadrunners have split their last two outings, defeating Mount Saint Vincent 6-0 before falling to the College of Staten Island by a score of 2-0 their last time out. They began their season 0-3 and have yet to pick up a road victory in 2018. The lone opponent the two teams have shared in 2018 is Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham, who defeated both teams; Ramapo by a final of 5-2 and NJCU by a final of 7-0.
 
Ramapo has been led by their number 10 this season, as junior midfielder Liliann Vizcaino has tallied two goals and five assists for nine points total. She has had a hand in seven of the Roadrunners' 10 goals this season.
 
For NJCU, it has been junior center mid Mallensy Vargas (North Bergen, NJ/Memorial) who has had a hand in 10 of the Knights' 17 goals this season, with eight of those being goals. She has 35 career goals.
 
The two teams met once in 2017, with the Gothic Knights going up 3-0 before holding on in the second half for a 3-2 conference win. The victory was one of two NJAC wins in 2017 for the Knights.

  • Vargas now sits fifth all-time among NJCU women's soccer players in terms of career points, having just passed Carine Carvalheiro with 78 points her last time on the pitch.
