Perennial NJAC Power Stockton Sweeps #NJCUWVB

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Stockton University hit a thunderous .471 as the perennial New Jersey Athletic Conference powerhouse swept a league matchup from the New Jersey City University women's volleyball team on October 1, winning 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-12) at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (Coach Charlie Brown Court).

Stockton, one of the best teams in the New York Region, won its eighth in a row and improved to 15-2 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC. The Gothic Knights have now played the top four teams in the league standings in the first half of the NJAC schedule, dropping to 5-9 overall (0-4 NJAC).

Stockton's impressive attack percentage was consistent all match, in all three sets, and regardless of whether it used first or second team players on the court. The Ospreys had 38 kills and only five errors in 70 attempts.

Stockton hit .464 in game one with 16 kills (16-3-28), then had just one attack error in each of the next two games—.458 on 12 kills in set two and .500 with 10 winners (10-1-18) in the final period. NJCU had 17 kills (17-17-79, .000).

Stockton also played stellar defense, passing 37 digs to frustrate the Gothic Knight attack. It also landed 12 aces; NJCU uncorked just one.

Senior outside hitter Stephanie Duque (West New York, NJ/Memorial) was NJCU's top performer, landing eight kills at a .227 percentage (8-3-22). Freshman setter Katrina Nguyendon (Union, NJ/Union) had 13 assists.

All 16 players on the roster played and the visitors were paced by First-Team All-NJAC standout setter and junior Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater, N.J.) who was involved in all facets of the game. She handed out 21 assists, hit .727 on attack with nine kills in 11 attempts (one error), primarily putting away second touches, and landed three aces.

Junior outside hitter Sarah Walsh (Flemington, N.J.) hit .471 with nine kills (9-1-17) and five digs. Junior middle hitter Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, N.Y.) added a .545 attack percentage and six kills (6-0-11) while junior outside Christie Louer (Clifton, N.J.) had nine digs and two aces. Sophomore outside Haley Green (Springville, Utah) hit .714 with five kills in seven attempts in two sets.
