Seickendick Sizzles as #NJCUWVB Blossoms at Rosemont, 3-0

ROSEMONT, Pa. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Sophomore middle blocker Leah Seickendick (Hoboken, NJ/Hudson Catholic) hit .667 with nine kills to ignite the attack and the Gothic Knights uncorked 13 services as the New Jersey City University women's volleyball team swept Rosemont College, 3-0—25-13, 25-15, 25-16—on October 10.

With the win in the non-conference matchup, the Knights improve to 6-11 overall. NJCU was efficient on attack, landing 29 kills with just 11 errors, to hit .240 as a team.

Seickendick finished with a line of 9-1-12 and added two solo blocks while freshman outside hitter Xarial Chandler (East Orange, NJ/University) had a solid all-around effort with 10 digs, six kills, a .286 attack rate and three aces.

Complementing the win were sophomore outside Lola Vega who collected seven kills, hit .263 (7-2-19) and unleashed five service aces. Freshman setter Katrina Nguyendon (Union, NJ/Union) tallied 18 assists and three aces and freshman libero Bella Sunahara (Parker, CO/Legend) had nine digs.

Rosemont (3-17) received a match-high 11 kills from senior outside Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter (Magnolia, N.J.) while junior setter Alyssa Springer (Baytown, Texas) finished with 13 assists, eight digs, six kills and a .667 attack (6-0-9). Senior Julianna Capece (Allentown, Pa.) defended 12 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • NJCU hit .308 in game one with 12 kills and fended off a Rosemont squad that hit .240 with nine kills. NJCU had seven aces in the first set.
  • Leading 7-6, NJCU scored four consecutive points to take an 11-6 lead. Vega served three straight aces. NJCU had two more four-point runs to extend leads to 16-9 and 20-10, before pulling away, 25-13.
  • NJCU had nine kills in game two while holding the Ravens to a negative attack (6-8-26, -0.077). It scored the first five points of the set and never was challenged. Leading 12-8, NJCU put the game away with an 8-0 run to boost the lead to 20-8.
  • Rosemont actually edged NJCU in kills in the third set (10-8) and led the third, 8-2. But NJCU responded in a major way with eight consecutive points to seize a 10-8 lead. Still clutching a one-point lead, NJCU notched seven consecutive points to claim a 22-14 margin before sealing the win.

  OF NOTE:
  • Series: NJCU leads all-time, 3-0, with wins in 2010 and 2015.
  • Rosemont did not have a block in the match.

UP NEXT:
  • NJCU is idle for a week until it hosts Rutgers-Newark on Thursday, October 19 (7 p.m.) in New Jersey Athletic Conference action at the  the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (Coach Charlie Brown Court).
