JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Rowan University scored four goals in each half and defeated the
New Jersey City University women's soccer team, 8-1, in New Jersey Athletic Conference competition on October 12 at the Robert L McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
The loss spoiled Homecoming weekend for NJCU (7-6-1, 0-4-1 NJAC) as Rowan (6-5-1, 2-2-1 NJAC) outshot the Gothic Knights 34-11, including 18-2 in shots on goal. The Profs outshot NJCU 15-3 in the first half and 19-8 in the final 45 minutes. An alert Rowan squad followed its shots, scoring four of its eight goals on rebounds of previous attempts.
In defeat, senior center midfielder
Mallensy Vargas (North Bergen, NJ/Memorial) bagged her NCAA-leading 19th goal of the season and 47th point in the 71st minute, finishing a penalty kick after being dragged down in the box. It was her second career goal against Rowan and 59th of her career.
Rowan junior midfielder
Dominique Marrone (Marlton, N.J.) netted a hat trick—her fourth, fifth and sixth goals of the season—and chipped in an assist on the game's first goal in the fifth minute, to finish with seven points. She added the second and third goals of the game in the 19th and 37th minutes.
Sophomore midfielder
Bethany Sansone (Roxbury, N.J.) scored twice—her second and third of the year—bookending the scoring for Rowan with the first and eighth goals.
Freshman midfielder
Morgan Ostermueller (Williamstown, N.J.), junior forward
Abby Daigle (Millville, N.J.) and junior forward
Imani Gaines (Millville, N.J.) each added single goals for the victors.
Seven different Profs chalked up an assist in the game, including
Gaines who finished the day with three points in her first action of the season. Junior forward

Cidney Lee-Sam (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) made nine saves for NJCU in 81:03 of action, allowing six of the goals. Sophomore
Cindy Espinal (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) made one save in 8:57 of injury fill-in time. Freshman goalkeeper
Alessia LaRosa (Freehold, N.J.) and junior
Amanda Leber (Chesterfield, N.J.) split the halves in net with
LaRosa stopping one shot in the opening 45.
