#NJCUWVB Falls at Rutgers-Camden in Final NJAC Match

CAMDEN, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Rutgers University-Camden handed the New Jersey City University women's volleyball team a 3-0 loss in the final New Jersey Athletic Conference match of the 2019 season. Set scores were 25-14, 25-14, 25-16.

Rutgers-Camden (13-15, 2-6 NJAC), had a 37-21 margin in kills in the match. NJCU fell to 8-16 overall and finished the conference slate without a win (0-8 NJAC). Camden had a 16-3 differential in service aces as seven different Raptors produced at least one.

NJCU's top three performers were all freshmen. NJCU received a match-high 11 kills from freshman outside hitter Xarial Chandler (East Orange, NJ/University) who reached double digits in kills for the fifth consecutive match. She added 12 digs for her fourth career double-double with three aces. Freshman libero Bella Sunahara (Parker, CO/Legend), the NJAC Rookie of the Week, had 20 digs—her sixth consecutive effort with at least 20 digs. Freshman setter Katrina Nguyendon (Union, NJ/Union) produced her 10th double-double of the season with 19 assists and 13 digs.

For the Scarlet Raptors, senior outside hitter Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, N.J.) had 10 kills and 11 digs with three aces, twin sister Morgan Mulligan (New Gretna, N.J.) hit .280 with nine kills (9-2-25), 16 digs and three aces and senior outside Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, N.J.) contributed eight kills, hitting .333 (8-2-18) as the top three hitters combined for 27 kills. Sophomore setters Brinn Hassan (Williamstown, N.J.) and Kayla Benesz (East Brunswick, N.J.) had 19 and 11 assists, respectively.

Camden jumped out to a 12-2 lead in game one and sealed the set with a final 7-1 run. Leading 7-5 in game two, Camden reeled off a 6-0 run, paced by three consecutive aces from Jamie Mulligan, to claim a 13-5 lead. Camden led for most of the third set but didn't pull away until a 4-0 run, fueled by three NJCU attack errors, turned a 19-15 lead into a 23-15 advantage, before finishing off the sweep.
