Shania Robinson Named NJAC Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week

December 18, 2019

PITMAN, N.J.  (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | For the first time since the program reboot, the New Jersey City University women's track and field team has had an athlete named New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Shania Robinson (Jersey City, NJ/Snyder), the sophomore standout for the Knights, takes home the honor for the week of 12/09-12/15.

Robinson ran in both the 300-Meter Dash and Sprint Medley Relay at the Seahawk Shootout on Friday, December 13 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, becoming a part of history in both events. The Jersey City native ran a 44.01 in the 300, breaking the school record and finishing 13th in a field of 46.

"I'm thrilled for Shania, she secured her place in the NJCU record books," head coach Patrick O'Neill said. "She executed our race plan perfectly and had one of her strongest finishes yet. I can't wait to see what she'll accomplish in 2020."

Robinson was also part of the top-performing Sprint Medley Relay Team whose time of 4:45.38 also established a new school record, as she was joined by Tiffany Ortiz (/), Xarial Chandler (East Orange, NJ/University), and Grace Sabaya (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson)

"Our women's SMR ran a great race on tired legs," head coach Patrick O'Neill explained. "For three of those four legs to be freshman is just incredible. Tiffany led off and put Xarial in a solid spot. Shania did her job and kept us in it before handing it off to Grace, who just moments before had ran the 1K. I'm excited to see what these ladies can do on fresh legs."

Robinson and the Knights head into their winter break on this high note and will return to action on Friday, January 10 for the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Invitational.
