New Jersey City University swept a non-conference match from Sarah Lawrence College on March 29, winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-18) in its final weekday match of the season at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (Coach Charlie Brown Court).

NJCU improved to 12-11 while getting contributions from nearly its entire roster, pounding out more than three times as many kills as the Gryphons (1-14). NJCU owned a 39-11 advantage in kills and hit .291 as a team (39-16-79).

The match, originally slated as a tri-match to include Wilkes University, was trimmed to one match earlier in the day due to Wilkes being unable to compete.

Junior setter
Jimmy Vega (Harrison, NJ/Harrison) helped pace NJCU with 17 assists and seven digs while freshman middle hitter
Jeffry Rodriguez (Elizabeth, NJ/John E. Dwyer Technology AcademyElizabeth, N.J. (John E. Dwyer Technology Academy), this week's New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, was nearly perfect, hitting .800 with eight kills (no errors) in 10 swings.

Sophomore outside hitter
Jonathan Andrews (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen), this week's NJAC Player of the Week, hit .375 with nine kills (9-3-16), seven digs and three aces and freshman outside
Leo Ferrari (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) notched seven kills (.286, 7-3-14). Freshman setter
Aaron Mantilla (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) added 12 assists. Sophomore right side
Joseph Stawicki (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) finished with a .400 attack rate (5-10-10).

No SLC players had more than four kills in the match as the Gryphons hit .037 on the day (11-9-54).

Tied 9-9 in game one, NJCU had three separate 4-0 outburst to pull away, 25-15. The Knights hit .406 as a team in the set with 17 kills (17-4-32) and an 80 percent sideout rate (12-15).

NJCU jumped out to an 18-7 lead in the second set and pulled away. NJCU had 15 kills in the second game. The third set was more of the same as a 5-1 run early saw the hosts build a 16-9 edge and carried that to a 3-0 win. NJCU served six aces in the final set; the Knights landed 13 aces on the day.

NJCU is idle until Saturday, April 6 when it wraps up its regular season with a home tri-match with Neumann University (11 a.m.) and The Sage Colleges (3 p.m.); Neumann and Sage will play a neutral-court match in the second of the three contests.
