GLASSBORO, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Nationally No. 7/16 ranked Rowan University scored in each of the first five innings and collected 18 hits en route to a 13-0 win over the
New Jersey City University baseball team, on April 7 at the Rowan Baseball Field.
Â
Rowan (17-5, 5-1 NJAC) won both games of the New Jersey Athletic Conference home-and-home series by the same 13-0 result with the Profs also prevailing in Jersey City on April 4. Sunday's game was postponed from April 5 due to rain. NJCU fell to 11-8 overall and 2-4 in the NJAC. Five of NJCU's eight losses, including three of four in the NJAC, have been shutouts. The Profs have won the last five meetings.
Â
NJCU ran into one of the best pitchers in the conference as junior left-handed pitcher
Drew Ryback (Mantua, N.J.) fired a complete-game five-hit shutout, striking out 10 without walking or hitting a batter. He threw 94 pitches to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Â
In defeat for NJCU, junior right fielder
Juan Pena (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) batted 2-for-3 with a double and his 22nd steal of the season. NJCU used six pitchers in the game. Freshman righty
Paul Tannucilli (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) went the first 4.0 innings, suffering his first collegiate defeat (0-1).

Â
Mendel's two-run homer in the bottom of the first provided all the runs Rowan would need.
Hewa led off the second with a solo homer. Rowan added a run in the third for a 4-0 advantage and a pair of RBI singles in the fourth for a 6-0 edge. The Profs led 7-0 through five frames.
