Robinson, Laguerre Reach ECAC Qualifying Standards at TCNJ Invitational

EWING, N.J.  (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Freshman Shania Robinson (Jersey City, NJ/Snyder) qualified for the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship in two events and freshman Kristina Laguerre (Union, NJ/Union) reached the ECAC standard in the shot put as the New Jersey City University women's outdoor track and field team competed in the TCNJ Invitational on April 5-6 at The College of New Jersey's Lions Stadium.
 
Robinson, who qualified on March 30 for the ECACs in the 400 meters, reached the standard in both the 200 and 400 meters on April 6. Seven different Gothic Knight women competed; there was no team scoring.
 
In the 200 meters, Robinson ran 27.08 seconds, placing 24th of 113 sprinters. That exceeded the ECAC standard of 27.41 seconds. Robinson was 19th of 64 runners in the 400 meters, timing 1:02.02 to better the ECAC standard of 1:03.75.
 
Laguerre, who joined the program during the outdoor season, was 18th of 42 field athletes in the shot put. She twice exceeded the ECAC standard of 9.69 meters on the day with throws of 9.78 and 9.94 meters; the latter measuring 32' 7.5. In the discus, Laguerre finished 14th of 40 athletes with a top throw of 27.10 meters (88-11).
 
Freshman Kyla Lewis (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) was 25th in the shot put (9.04 meters; 29' 8) and 26th in the discus (18.97 meters; 62' 3).

NJCU heads down the Garden State Parkway on April 12-13 to compete in the Osprey Open, hosted by Stockton University in Galloway, N.J. at G. Larry James Stadium.
