Box Score 1 SWARTHMORE, Pa,. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Swarthmore College scored all six of its runs in the fifth through eighth innings and held off the
New Jersey City University baseball team, 6-4, in a game one of a non-conference cold-weather doubleheader on February 29 at the Clothier Baseball Field. Game two was postponed due to cold temperatures and a rescheduled date has not been determined.

NJCU (0-3) lost despite outhitting the Garnet in the loss, 9-7 and has dropped three games by three or fewer runs. Swarthmore improved to 3-0 on the season with all wins by two runs or less. NJCU stranded 11 men on base.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher
Paul Tannucilli (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) tossed 5.2 no-hit innings before the Garnet broke through in the sixth. Junior second baseman
Brandon Rivera (Aberdeen, NJ/Matawan Regional) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while sophomore first baseman
Ricky Voss (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional) batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. Freshman right fielder
Justin Wiltsey (Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Hamilton West) was 2-for-4.

Swarthmore had seven hits, each by a different man. Senior first baseman
Cole Beeker (Lexington, N.C.) drove in two runs.Â

Senior left-handed pitcher
Ryan Warm (Gainesville, Fla.), the third of three Garnet pitchers, threw the final 5.0 innings over 87 pitches, striking out eight against one walk. He allowed three unearned runs and six hits to pick up the win (1-0). Sophomore righty
Drew McMahan (Orlando, Fla.) threw two hitless innings in the third and fourth, allowing one run with four K's against two walks.

THE SCORING
NJCU struck in the top of the fourth.
Rivera and
Wiltsey walked back-to-back to open the frame, moved into scoring position on a double steal and
Rivera scored on a passed ball.

Tannucilli, who in six innings in a losing cause (0-2), allowed just two earned runs and four hits, striking out five and walking five, saw his no-hit bid broken up with a two-out single by freshman catcher
Emmet Reynolds (Baltimore, Md.), then after a throwing error extended the inning.
Reynolds scored to tie the game on an RBI single by sophomore left fielder
Paul Cooke (Cranbury, N.J.)

Ricky Voss (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional) batted 2-for-4 with
an RBI and a walk.
Swarthmore took the lead with two runs in the sixth.
Beeker hit a one-out solo homer to right and senior center fielder
Jared Gillen (Stilwel, Kan.) who walked and stole second, scored the go-ahead run on a two-out single to center by junior shortstop

Aaron Ayers (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) started the seventh for NJCU. Leading 3-1, the Garnet put runners on the corners with a pair of singles and plated a fourth run on an RBI groundout by
Beeker.

Swarthmore pushed the lead to 6-1 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a sac bunt that plated two runs after a leadoff double by freshman third baseman
Ari Fierer (Denver, Colo.) and an error.

The Knights tried to rally in the ninth. An RBI single down the right field line by
Voss drove in freshman pinch hitter
Joe Valentine (Clifton, NJ/Saint Mary-Rutherford) after he advanced on an error and a two-run single to center by
Rivera cut the deficit to two, before a groundout ended the game.
