Box Score 3 JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The morning after former
New Jersey City University men's and women's volleyball coach
Christopher Feliciano was inducted into the NJCU Athletics Hall of Fame, he was eclipsed on the Gothic Knight all-time wins list by one of his proteges,
Carlo Edra. NJCU easily swept a Skyline Conference tri-match on February 29, blanking Sarah Lawrence College, 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-7) and the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-12) at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (Coach Charlie Brown Court).
Â
With the two wins, NJCU improved to 8-6 on the season and 2-1 in the Skyline, giving
Edra, in the first season of his second stint as head coach of the Knights, his 73rd career win.
Feliciano, the current head women's coach at the University of New Hampshire, won 72 matches in four years (2004-07).
Â
MATCH 1: NJCU 3, Sarah Lawrence 0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-7)
NJCU absolutely dominated the match, hitting .423 as a team with 37 kills and only seven errors (71 attempts) while the Gryphons (2-13, 0-3 Skyline) mustered only six kills and 14 attack errors, being held to a -.170 rate. The match lasted just 58 minutes.
Â
Senior right side
Julian Moreira (Miami, FL/Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Biscayne Bay Campus) had a sensational all-around effort with 12 kills, seven aces, five digs and two blocks, contributing 20.0 total points. He hit .625 on attack (12-2-16). Sophomore middle blocker
Jeffrey Rodriguez could not be contained, smashing 12 kills in 14 swings with just one error for a mind-boggling .786 attack percentage with four blocks.
Â
Also for NJCU, junior setter
Alexander Umanzor (West New York, NJ/Memorial) handed out 29 assists with two aces and two blocks. Freshman middle
Ivan Alberti (West New York, NJ/Memorial) had a solid effort with five kills in seven swings (0 errors), hitting .714 with two blocks.

NJCU hit .367 in the opening set with 12 kills (12-1-30) and a colossal .500 in game two with 14 winners (14-3-22). The Knights capped the match with a .421 attack rate in the third game (11-3-19). SLC never had more than three kills in any set nor climbed out of negative hitting numbers.
Â
Leading 6-4 in the first set, NJCU unleashed a 13-0 run behind the serving of
Moreira, who had three aces and two kills during the stretch, to build an overwhelming 19-4 lead. Leading 14-12 in a more competitive second set, the tide quickly changed when NJCU embarked on 11 consecutive points to end the game—once again behind the serving of
Moreira, who had two more aces, and
Rodriguez, who put away two kills. The Knights vaulted out to a 6-1 lead in the third game, expanded it to 13-3 behind two kills and two aces from
Moreira over a five-point stretch, and cruised from there.
Rodriguez had two kills and a block during another 5-0 run that elevated the lead to 18-4 as NJCU punctuated its win.
Â
MATCH 2: Mount Saint Vincent 3, Sarah Lawrence 1 (25-14, 24-26, 25-19, 25-17)
In the middle, neutral match of the day, CMSV took four sets to defeat Sarah Lawrence, one less than when the two sides met earlier in the week when Mount Saint Vincent won in five sets.
Â
MATCH 3: NJCU 3, Mount Saint Vincent 0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-12)
In the final match of the day, NJCU once again finished off the match in a sweep, coming from behind in the opening set then dominating the final two games.
Â
The Knights did it with a complete effort. No player tallied over eight kills, and ironically, the team lead went to sophomore setter
Leo Ferrari (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) who continually burned CMSV with dump shots.
Ferrari hit .667 in 12 swings without an error and of course led the team with 22 assists and three aces. Freshman outside
Nicolas Figueroa (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep) led the team with 10 digs.Â
Â
For the match, as a whole, NJCU was statistically dominated, collecting 51.0 points to just 15.0 for CMSV. They had 34 kills (.300 hitting percentage) to just eight for the Dolphins (-.200). They also had 30 assists to just eight for CMSV; they led each and every statistical category.
Â
The first set was the closest of the bunch, with Mount Saint Vincent actually getting out to a quick 5-0 lead before an NJCU timeout.
Edra made sure to light a fire under his players, and the results were immediate, with the Knights taking the lead midway through the set at 10-9.
Moreira helped lead that push, while
Ferrari and junior middle block
Christian Ramirez (West New York, NJ/Memorial) helped put away the set, as NJCU took seven of the final eight points. The second and third sets were more thoroughly dominated by NJCU, getting out to large leads in both (11-3 and 10-2, respectively) and cruising to the sweep.
