Sam Toney (Plainfield, NJ/Williamstown) has been voted to the 2019-20
Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III All-ECAC team for the 2020 season, in voting by the ECAC major awards committee the organization has announced.
Toney was voted Second-Team All-ECAC and was the only player from the New Jersey Athletic Conference honored as All-ECAC this year.
Toney, who was previously named First-Team All-ECAC in 2018 and 2019 and the 2017 ECAC Metro Rookie of the Year, wraps up his career as a three-time All-ECAC selection since the organization switched to its current format, combining all four regions the ECAC covers (Metro, North, South and New England) into one.
Toney, the 2018 and 2019 NJAC Player of the Year, was picked Second-Team All-NJAC this year. The 2019-20 DIII News Preseason Division III National Player of the Year had an outstanding season but on a strong offensive team, did not need to put up the dynamic statistics he had in years past.
Still,
Toney, the 2018 and 2019 NJAC Player of the Year and two-time All-American concluded his career with 1,779 points—fourth in school history—817 rebounds, and a program-record 233 three-pointers.
Toney produced 27th career double-doubles and four this season. He scored in double figures 90 times in 112 career games and 25 times in 28 games this year.
Toney finished the season with 417 points, 178 rebounds, 41 assists, 30 steals and 21 blocks in 797 minutes. He averaged 14.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.8 blocks per game in 28.5 minutes per contest. He shot .420 from the field (139-331), .356 from three-point range (57-160) and .745 from the foul line (82-110).
He finished his career as the first Gothic Knight to be a four-time All-NJAC selection since
Johnny Mayers from 1984-87—33 years ago.
Mayers (1912 points) is directly above
Toney on NJCU's all-time scoring list.
Toney, a two-time NJAC Player of the Week this year, was a 2018-19 NABC First-Team All-American and finished his career as NJCU's only two-time All-American. He was the
2019 NJAC Male Athlete of the Year. Toney is just the fifth two-time NJAC Player of the Year in the NJAC since 1980.
In the final conference statistical leaders he ranked eighth in rebounding, eight in three-pointers per game (2.0), 10th in scoring, 11th in blocked shots, 12th in free throw percentage, 12th in offensive rebounds per game (2.0) and 13th in defensive rebounds per game (4.4).
Sam Toney was voted All-ECAC for the third consecutive season.
