JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Senior
Bill Feehan (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) of the baseball team and sophomore
April Gutierrez (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) of the women's cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field team headline 38
New Jersey City University student-athlete named to the 2019-20
New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Academic Teams announced on July 1.
Â
Feehan and
Gutierrez were named
First-Team Academic All-NJAC while senior
Mike Almeida (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) of the men's soccer team and junior
Dulce Almonte (Jersey City, NJ/Snyder via County Prep) of the softball team each were selected
Second-Team Academic All-NJAC. Additionally, 34 other Gothic Knights were named
Honorable Mention Academic All-NJAC.
Â
To be eligible for the Academic All-NJAC teams, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior who has competed in a conference-sponsored sport while achieving a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20. First and second-team selections were made by each of the league's 10 full-member institutions.
Â
The NJCU baseball team led all Gothic Knight teams with 10 selections, followed by the men's soccer team with nine selections. The men's cross country and track and field teams placed six on the Academic All-NJAC squad while women's cross country and track and field had three selections. All 15 NJCU athletic teams that compete as members of the NJAC had at least one student-athlete earn a spot on the All-Academic Team.
Â
Bill Feehan (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) graduates as one of the top scholar-athletes in NJCU baseball history.
BILL FEEHAN
For the fourth consecutive season, a member of the baseball team was named First-Team Academic All-NJAC.
Feehan earned Academic All-NJAC honors for the third consecutive season, taking home First-Team honors after being chosen Second-Team Academic All-NJAC in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Feehan earned the NJCU
Presidential Individual Academic Achievement Awards for the second consecutive year this season, achieving a 3.95 GPA while majoring in Fire Science with a minor in General Business.
Feehan became just the fourth NJCU male to win the award in consecutive years. He earned a perfect 4.00 GPA in five of eight semesters at NJCU (Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Fall 2018 and Fall 2019, Spring 2020).Â
Â
A four-year starting left fielder and designated hitter for head coach
Jerry Smith, in 90 career games (including 87 starts), he finished his career with 87 hits, a .286 batting average and a .424 on-base percentage, including 61 walks and 17 hit by pitch. He scored 58 runs and drove in 48 RBIs, adding 19 extra-base hits—15 doubles, one triple and three home runs.
Feehan missed most of his junior season with a hamstring injury and his senior season was cut short after six games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He played the first two games of NJCU's Texas spring trip before returning early to New Jersey to take a fire department placement exam.
Â
He would have easily surpassed 100 career hits if not for these setbacks and he finished his career with an average of one hit for every game started.
Feehan is among NJCU's all-time leaders in walks.Â
Â

Â
In three abbreviated seasons she is a career .291 hitter in 79 games (77 starts) with 55 hits, 31 runs, 20 walks and 12 RBIs. She has improved each year in all aspects of her game. After batting .169 as a freshman in 2018, her batting average jumped an incredible 140 points to .309 as a sophomore and another 210 points as a junior (.519).
