July 27, 2020

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The NJCU Office of Athletic Communications, led by Ira Thor, the Assistant Director of Athletics for Strategic Communications and Marketing, in partnership with the NJCU Office of Marketing and Communications, has earned four national awards, including "Best in the Nation" in the 2019-20 CoSIDA Publications and Digital Design Contest conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The office placed three other entries in the Top 10 in the nation and finished with three of the top four judged entries in the country in the Fall/Winter/Spring Posters — College Division category.

Paul Gargiulo, the Associate Director in the Office of Television & Multimedia Production, who handled the photography for the project, and Robert Gonzalez, NJCU graphic designer, shared in the awards with Thor. During the 2019-20 academic year, the winning design concept involved each fall sports team receiving a series of three posters (displayed below).

The 2019-20 men's golf poster was voted "Best in the Nation". It is the first "Best in the Nation" award ever won by NJCU in a publications design contest.

Meanwhile, the 2019-20 women's soccer poster was voted No. 3 in the nation and the women's volleyball poster finished fourth. The men's soccer poster placed ninth overall. No other college earned more than one citation in the category.

Meanwhile, NJCU finished No. 1 and No. 2 in District 2; men's golf placed first and women's soccer was chosen second.

The contest is divided into University and College divisions. The University division is all Division I schools. The college division is everyone else, including NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, NJCAA and high school programs.
