Duhaney Secures Top 10 Finish as Women's Golf Competes at Drew Invite

MORRISTOWN, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's golf team took part in the Drew Spring Brook Invitational, which was hosted by Drew University on Tuesday, Oct. 12, on the par-72, 5,915-yard course at Spring Brook Country Club.

Overall, the 18-hole tournament was won by the hosting Rangers, who finished with a team score of 353. Their own Kayla Diaz took home the individual title as well, shooting an 80 on the day, 10 strokes better than the next-best finisher.

For the Gothic Knights, three players competed in Morristown and all notched top 20 finishes. They were led once again by freshman Destiny Duhaney (Freeport, Bahamas/Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Academy), who notched an eighth-place finish with the second-best round of her young career after shooting a 97. Senior captain Elizabeth Bello (Jersey City, N.J./Innovation) and freshman Gwendolyne Lopez (Houston, Texas/MacArthur Senior) each shot a 118 on the day and tied each other for 19th place.

After a week off, Jersey City will return to the course on Monday afternoon, Oct. 25, for the Lebanon Valley Fall Invitational, which will be hosted by Lebanon Valley College at Lebanon Country Club in Lebanon, Pa. That will be the Gothic Knights' final tuneup before they compete in their first-ever Atlantic East Conference Championship, which will be hosted by Cabrini University on Thursday morning, Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa.
