JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's volleyball team competed in its fifth New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match of the season tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 12. The Gothic Knights hosted Rowan University, but fell to the Profs in three sets (25-14, 25-14, 25-14).
NJCU (11-5, 1-4 NJAC) had a few strong performances on the night despite the loss to Rowan (16-3, 5-0 NJAC). Main offensive focal points, freshman outside Hitter
Rachael Pharo (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) and junior right-side hitter
Paola Toledo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio Catolico San Rafael) each finished with team highs in kills with seven on 23 three swings apiece. Toledo had three errors (.174 hitting percentage), while Pharo had two mishits (.217).
Sophomore setter
Sydney Lore (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) finished with a team-high 21 assists to go with five digs, while senior defensive specialist
Krista Bartko (Edison, N.J./Edison) recorded a team-best six digs. Senior libero
Madeline Lopez (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic) also finished with five digs and a pair of assists. Pharo chipped in four digs on the night, as well. Freshman outside hitter
Brenda Gonzalez (Union City, N.J./Dickinson) saw some time in the third set and notched three kills on five error-less swings (.600).
