GENEVA, N.Y. — Following a strong performance on the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships, the New Jersey City University men's tennis duo of senior
Theo Bourghelle (Lesquin, France/LaSalle Lille) and sophomore
Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine) competed in the quarterfinal round today, Saturday, Oct. 2, against the second-seeded pair from Skidmore College.
Despite their best efforts, the pair of Bourghelle and Teynie ultimately fell to Skidmore's Brendan Jimenez and Zachary Portnoy by a score of 8-7 after dropping the tiebreaker 9-7. The latter duo eventually advanced through the semifinals and will compete for the ITA Doubles Title on Sunday, Oct. 3.

The Gothic Knights now head back home to Jersey City to prepare for the final action of the Fall portion of their 2021-22 schedule when they
host Division I foe Wagner College on Sunday evening, Oct. 10, at the Staten Island Tennis Center. First-serve between NJCU and the Seahawks is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Consolation Matches
Several Gothic Knights also competed in one pro-set consolation singles matches on the day, highlighted by sophomore
Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/I.E.S. Politécnico), who posted a 2-0 record with a pair of wins over James Balon (8-3) of Vassar College and Ben Jacobs (8-5) of Union College. Newcomer junior
Ryan Weiss (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional), a transfer from Rowan College-Gloucester this season, split his matches, starting with an 8-5 win over Nick Weitzman of Union College before falling by that same score to Adam Heilbronner of St. Lawrence University.
