JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The 2021-22 d3hoops.com Preseason Women's All-America teams were released today, Monday, Nov. 1, and New Jersey City University women's basketball sophomore point guard
Damaris Rodriguez (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) was selected to the Fourth Team.
Rodriguez is the only representative from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) on any of the five preseason teams and is one of just two underclassmen to be recognized. The Gothic Knight point guard will be at the helm of the reigning NJAC Champions following NJCU's first-ever title-winning season.
The Secaucus native earned the preseason recognition from d3hoops.com largely due to her stellar rookie season, during which she collected a multitude of postseason accolades. She was selected to the NJAC First Team and was named the conference's Rookie of the Year. Additionally, d3hoops.com named her the All-Atlantic/Mid-Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year and to the First Team. The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) also named Rodriguez the Division III Player of the Year, the first freshman to ever earn the honor.
Rodriguez and the rest of the Gothic Knights hit the court for the first time for a pair of upcoming scrimmages, first at Division I Saint Peter's University down the road for the Battle of the Boulevard on Wednesday night, Nov. 3, at 7:00 p.m. and then at home at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) against Division II Nyack College on Monday night, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. The regular-season officially kicks off next Thursday night, Nov. 11, at 6:00 p.m. at the JMAC against Saint Elizabeth University.
