LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's and women's cross country teams closed out their 2021 seasons at the NCAA Division III Metro Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 13, hosted at Dream Park by Rowan University. On the men's side, Jersey City placed 15th out of 21 teams in the 8k event. As for the women, three Gothic Knights placed individually, however, they did score in the team standings.
Haverford College dominated the men's team championship, while Chris Andersen of Ramapo College took home the individual title with a time of 25:03.20. NJCU finished with a total of six runners placing in the event, starting with sophomore
Julius Libutsi (Jersey City, N.J./William L. Dickinson) who finished 68th out of 163 runners with a time of 27:42.80 — his second-best time of the year in the 8K. Next to finish was junior
Jaime Tlatelpa (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) in 90th with a time of 29:09.40. Junior
Jose Recinos (Union City, N.J./Union City) (100th) and sophomore
Topu Saha (Jersey City, N.J./William L. Dickinson) (101st) ended back-to-back with times of 29:44.70 and 29:49.00, respectively. Following not far behind was senior
Fahim Chowdhury (Bayonne, N.J./County Prep) in 108th with a personal-best time of 30:07.90, sophomore
Jake Sisk (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) in 111th with a time of 30:35.50 and sophomore
Elvis Rosas (West New York, N.J./Memorial) in 113th with a time of 30:40.30.
The women's team 6k championship was also captured by Haverford, while Isabella Miller of Fords took the individual title with a time of 21:24.10. For the Green and Gold squad, senior captain
April Gutierrez (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) ended in the 101st spot out of 171 runners with a time of 26:12.50. Junior
Tiffany Ortiz (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) also placed 108th with her run of 26:32.40. Rookie
Nyla Boyd (Thomson, Ga./Thomson) was the third and final runner to place for Jersey City. Boyd finished in 138th with a personal-best time of 28:48.20.
