Men’s Soccer Lands Two on All-NJAC Team

PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced its 2021 All-Conference men's soccer teams today, Wednesday, Nov. 3. Sophomores Maximo Vargas (Montevideo, Uruguay/The British Schools) and Anthony Salmeron (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) of the New Jersey City University men's soccer team were both were awarded Honorable Mention All-NJAC honors for the season.

Vargas has been a standout forward in the year, leading NJCU in goals (10), points (22), shots (55) and shots on goal (29). He started in 16 games, seeing action in 18 games, totaling 1,151 minutes on the field this year. Vargas' took a career-high six shots against York College on October 11. The sophomore also gathered career-high totals against the City College of New York (Sept. 22), with two goals, five shots on goal and one assist. He tied his record in yesterday's game against Gallaudet (Nov. 2), scoring two of the five goals for the Gothic Knights.

Salmeron also put on a standout performance after starting in 16 games this season. In total, he gathered 1,275 minutes of playing time on the field. He finished with a high of two goals, 18 shots, eight shots on goal and four total points. While he spent most of his time holding down the defensive line, Salmeron managed to land three shots in the game against John Jay College on Sept. 20.
