Gothic Knights Sweep Weekly NJAC Cross Country Awards

PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) released its weekly cross country award winners this morning, Tuesday, Nov. 9, and the New Jersey City University men's and women's cross country teams combined to sweep the awards, hauling in three.

Men's sophomore Julius Libutsi (Jersey City, N.J./William L. Dickinson) earned his second-career NJAC Runner of the Week accolade as he and the rest of the Gothic Knights competed at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships this past Saturday, Nov. 6, in Milton, N.Y. Libutsi was NJCU's top finisher on the men's 8K course after placing 13th out of 71 runners with a time of 29:10.20. As a team, he helped Jersey City to a fourth-place finish.

On the women's side, senior captain April Gutierrez (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) and freshman Nyla Boyd (Thomson, Ga./Thomson) combined to sweep the Runner and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively, after helping their squad to a seventh-place finish at ECACs. Gutierrez, who also hauls in her second-career Runner of the Week accolade, was the Gothic Knights top finisher on Saturday in the 6K with a time of 28:42.70, placing her 22nd out of 67 runners. Boyd, who claims the first weekly award of her career, took home 37th place with a time of 32:13.80.

NJCU cross country returns to action this Saturday morning, Nov. 13, for the NCAA Division III Metro Regional Championships. The races will be hosted by Rowan University at Dream Park in Logan Township, N.J.
