MONTCLAIR, N.J. — It was a tough start for the New Jersey City University men's soccer team as the Gothic Knights dropped the season-opener of their abridged 2020-21 campaign by a score of 5-0 today, Saturday, March 13, on the road at New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foe Montclair State University.
NJCU (0-1, 0-1 NJAC) was unable to muster a shot on net in the loss, but junior goalkeeper
Nick Linebaugh (Linden, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) made an astounding 13 saves on 18 shots in his Gothic Knight debut against the Red Hawks (2-0, 2-0 NJAC).
The game itself was an extremely physical one as the teams combined for 29 fouls and seven yellow cards, spread evenly throughout the match. NJCU was charged for four, while Montclair State racked up three.
