NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) announced its annual all-conference awards for the 2020-21 season today, Monday, March 22. The upstart New Jersey City University women's bowling team, who finished the year just one win shy of qualifying for the AMCC Championship, collected a quartet of awards between three members of the program.
Leading the pack was sophomore
Arielle Wallace (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack), who was selected as a first team All-AMCC honoree for the second consecutive season. The sophomore was the fifth-ranked individual scorer in the entire AMCC (18.435 per frame), and second overall in Baker Format only (18.642).
The other NJCU bowler to earn honors was freshman
Rebecca Hoff (Colonia, N.J./Colonia). The rookie was selected as one of the AMCC's two co-Newcomers of the Year. Additionally, Hoff was selected as a second team All-AMCC honoree. She was ranked eighth overall in the AMCC in individual frame average (17.435), including seventh in Baker Format only (17.733).
Last but not least, in his 13th season on the coaching staff and just his second at the helm of the program, head coach
Rusty Thomsen was recgonized as the AMCC Coach of the Year. He helped guide the Gothic Knights to a 4-2 record during the two AMCC Round Robins, which earned them one of the four spots in the AMCC Semifinals. As mentioned, Thomsen's team finished just one win shy of qualifying for the AMCC Championship after NJCU defeated eventual-AMCC Champion Medaille College by overall scoring after splitting traditional and baker matches with the Mavericks. The Gothic Knights then swept Mount Aloysis College in two matches (traditional and baker) before falling in a best-of-seven series to Saint Vincent College in the seventh and final match of the day.
