BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — The New Jersey City University men's volleyball team, led by sophomore
Hanel Collado (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and senior
Alexander Umanzor (West New York, N.J./Memorial), picked up the straight-set (25-14, 25-12, 25-15) victory tonight, Thursday, March 25, on the road over Skyline Conference foe Sarah Lawrence College. With the victory, NJCU completes the regular-season sweep of the Gryphons, though the potential still exists that the two meet in the semifinal round of the Skyline Tournament in early April.
The Gothic Knights (5-3, 5-1 Skyline) started off set number one by taking the first five points against Sarah Lawrence (0-3, 0-3 Skyline) and eventually jumped out to a 7-3 advantage early on. Although NJCU was able to push forward and take a commanding 15-7 lead, the hosting Gryphons trimmed it down to four at 15-11. The Gothic Knights, however, finished the set on a 10-3 run to close it out 25-14.
Set number two started out evenly as the score was eventually tied at 7-7. An 8-1 run by NJCU made it a 15-8 game in favor of the Gothic Knights, as the road squad eventually closed it out for the 25-12 win thanks to another strong run, 10-4. The third and final set was close early one as well, as the Gyphons kept it close at 11-9 in favor of NJCU before the Gothic Knights used a 7-0 run to take to double up the home team at 18-9 en route to the 25-15 win and three-set victory.
