NJCU eSports Selected to CENC Field of 16; One of Two #1 Seeds

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Late last week, the Collegiate eSports National Championship (CENC) selected its field of 16 programs from around the nation to compete for the Super Smash Brother-Ultimate (SSBU) national title. The New Jersey City University eSports squad was selected as one of two #1 seeds — the Gothic Knights are tops in the ESTV Region, while University of Texas-Dalls is the #1 seed in the HyperX Region. Both UT-Dallas and the Gothic Knights are the only Division III programs in the field.

NJCU matches up with Caldwell University in the Round of 16 on Friday, April 29. Should the Gothic Knights advance to the quarterfinal round, they will face the winner of the matchup between #4 College of Staten Island and #5 Sacramento State University. The entirety of the national tournament will go from April 29-May 2. See below for the full schedule for NJCU:
  • Round of 16 vs. #8 Caldwell | 4/29 @ 3:15 p.m.
  • Quarterfinal vs. #4 Staten Island/#5 Sacramento State | 5/1 @ 12:30 p.m.
  • Semifinal vs. TBD | 5/2 @ 2:00 p.m.
  • Championship vs. TBD | 5/2 @ 2:45 p.m.

Overall, the Gothic Knights have had a dominant inaugural season, winning the ECAC eSports SSBU regular-season and tournament championship in the fall, and the regular-season title in the spring.
