GALLOWAY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's tennis team continued to make program history today, Friday, April 23. The Gothic Knights did unfortunately fall to Stockton University 6-1, but they simultaneously clinched the #6 seed and a home New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament First Round match next week.
NJCU (1-5, 1-5 NJAC) fell behind 2-0 after doubles play against the Ospreys (5-1, 5-1 NJAC) — who will be the second seed — and did drop singles matches two through five in scoreless, 6-0, 6-0, fashion. However, sophomore
Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani ) continued her stellar season by earning a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4, victory at first singles. The Italy native is now 5-1 on the season and is ranked as the second-best #1 singles player in the NJAC by record heading into the tournament.
What's Next
The Gothic Knights will return to action on Wednesday, April 28, at a to-be-determined time when they host #7 seed William Paterson University in the first round of the NJAC Tournament. NJCU defeated the Pioneers 6-1 in Wayne, N.J., back on March 30.
