Agutina Wins Again as Sisk and Gutierrez Take Down Program Records for Track & Field

April 23, 2021

MAHWAH, N.J. — New Jersey City University men's and women's track and field competed at the Ramapo College Mini Meet #2 this afternoon, April 23, and as a whole, took down 23 more personal best. Additionally, the Gothic Knights had one event champion and two program records broken.

For the third week in a row, sophomore Polina Agutina (Evaptoria, Poland/Number 6) placed first in the women's long jump with a personal-record of 5.16 meters. Additionally, that distance catapults her to the top of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) standings in the event as we're only a couple weeks away from the NJAC Championship.

Additionally, two more records fell for NJCU as senior April Gutierez placed fourth in the women's 5,000m in a time of 20:27.16, which surpasses her own program record she set back on April 2 at Stockton University. On the men's side, freshman Jake Sisk (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) took down the 1,500m record, placing sixth in a time of 4:21.22.

Another highlight was sophomore Jason Garcia (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson), who made his season debut in a strong way. He notched a PR in the 100m dash preliminaries — 11.74m — and placed third overall in the finals with a time of 11.48.

What's Next
NJCU was scheduled to return to the track this Sunday, April 25, for the Osprey Invite, hosted by Stockton University in Galloway, N.J. However, Sunday's weather forecast of rain forced the Ospreys to cancel the event. Up next for the Gothic Knights will now be the Osprey Twilight — hosted by Stockton as well — on Friday, April 30, at 4:00 p.m.
