STAUNTON, Va. — The New Jersey City University men's tennis team —
ranked #11 in the most recent NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Rankings — kicked off its two-day road-trip in Virginia this evening, Friday, April 30, and cruised to a 9-0 victory over Mary Baldwin University without dropping a single game over the nine individual matches.
With the victory, the Gothic Knights improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Fighting Squirrels drop to 0-14 and close out their season. NJCU kicked it off by winning third doubles thanks to the freshman pair of
Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine) and
Toni Cabot (Palma, Spain/IES Albuhaira). Next to finish was another rookie duo in
Jordi Julia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Sant Quirze del Valles) and
Gerard Loras (Tortosa, Spain/Col·legi Diocesà Sagrada Família) at second doubles, followed closely by freshman
Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/I.E.S. Politécnico) and junior
Alex Platonov (Weehawken, N.J./Weehawken) at third doubles.
Singles went just as quickly as doubles, started off by Cabot at third singles. Julia was next at second, followed by Ley at fourth. Teynie closed out first singles next and the final two matches on the evening came at fifth (Loras) and sixth (Platonov) singles. As mentioned, all of NJCU's victories came in straight, scoreless sets.
