May 01, 2021

GALLOWAY, N.J. — The Jersey City University men's and women's track and field teams competed in their final tuneup meet prior to the 2021 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship this past Friday, April 30. The Gothic Knights were once again led by sophomore long jumper Polina Agutina (Evaptoria, Poland/Number 6). One thing to note, many times throughout the event were severely effected by strong headwinds.

The native of Poland placed third out of 17 jumpers in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.14m. That continues to rank her in the top spot among all NJAC competitors, and 15th overall in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region. Additionally, she was the top Division III finisher in the event, placing behind two members od Division II Georgian Court University.

In the women's 100m dash, sophomore Lamya Young (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) placed third out of 16 sprinters with a time of 13.73. In the men's 100m dash, junior captain Dave Etienne (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) placed second out of 17 in a time of 11.80, while classmate Tyneil Jackson (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) was right behind him in third at 11.87. Etienne also came in second in the 200m dash in a time of 22.99.

Last but not least, the men's 4x400m relay squad was a nice highlight for the Gothic Knights. Jackson, junior Jerard Johnson (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder), senior Tyshon Johnson (Newark, N.J./People's Prep Charter) and sophomore Xavier Freeman (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) teamed up to place first in a time of 44.44.
