MAHWAH, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's track & field squad completed competition at the 2021 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Outdoor Championships today, Sunday, May 9. The Gothic Knights placed eighth overall, highlighted by a couple of strong relay performances from the 4x100m and 4x400m squads.
Overall, Rowan University claimed the team title, with The College of New Jersey and Stockton University coming in behind the Profs. For NJCU, who finished with 20 team points, several Gothic Knights stood out. The 4x100 meter relay team of sophomores
Xavier Freeman (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) and
Jason Garcia (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) and juniors
Tyneil Jackson (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) and
Dave Etienne (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) placed fourth with a personal record time of 43.30, just outside the podium. The 4x400 meter relay team also placed fourth with a personal record time of 3:28.54, as the pair of Freeman and Etienne were joined by rookies
Erich Fennelly (/) and freshman
Jake Sisk (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway).
On the field side of things, Jackson PRed in the triple jump and placed sixth with a leap of 12.46m. Freshman
Esdras Mendez (Ridgefield Park, N.J/Ridgefield Park) placed sixth as well, this time in the high jump with a personal record height of 1.70m. Rookie
Randy Butler (Millville, N.J./Millville) also performed well in discus, notching a throw of 36.62 meters to place eighth out of 19 competitors.

NJCU returns to the track this Thursday, May 13, for the TCNJ Last Chance Meet in Ewing, N.J. The Gothic Knights then have one last regular-season meet on Thursday, May 20, in Glassboro, N.J. — the Rowan Last Chance Meet.
