NJCU Joins Atlantic East Conference as Associate Members in Men's & Women's Golf

Gothic Knights Begin Atlantic East Competition in Fall 2021

June 29, 2021

LANCASTER, Pa. — New Jersey City University has been officially announced as an associate member of the Atlantic East Conference today, Wednesday, June 30. The Gothic Knights will compete in the Atlantic East for men's and women's golf and will be immediately eligible for tournaments and awards starting this coming fall.

"We are thrilled to welcome New Jersey City University to the conference as an affiliate member in men's and women's golf," said Jessica Huntley, Commissioner of the Atlantic East. "Advancing the sport of golf in our conference will enhance the student-athlete experience and we are confident New Jersey City is the perfect addition."

On the women's side, this will be the first-ever conference affiliation for the program, which completed its inaugural season in 2020-21. For the men, the Gothic Knights have competed for parts 11 seasons since the program's inception in the fall of 2010. They were members of the Captial Athletic Conference (CAC) — now known as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference — beginning in the 2013-14 season and competed as part of the CAC through the 2019-20 campaign before the conference discontinued its sponsorship of men's golf prior to the 2020-21 season.

"We are extremely excited and grateful to be joining the Atlantic East Conference as affiliate members for men's and women's golf," said Shawn Tucker, NJCU's Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics. "With our men's golf program's history of success, as well as our women coming off their inaugural season, we see no better place to continue to build a winning tradition than the Atlantic East Conference. As we continue to establish ourselves as championship-caliber competitors in many of our other varsity programs, we believe that Gothic Knights golf will prosper with the Atlantic East. Thank you to commissioner Jessica Huntley and the rest of the conference, and we look forward to competing against you all."

The Gothic Knights join five other institutions as participating members with the Atlantic East in men's and women's golf. The programs include full members Cabrini University, Marymount University, Marywood University and Neumann University, as well as fellow associate member and New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foe William Paterson University.

"I know I speak for all of my student-athletes when I say thank you to commissioner Jessica Huntley and the rest of the Atlantic East Conference for granting us admission as affiliate members," said Joe Yeck, NJCU's head men's and women's golf coach. "We believe that the Atlantic East is the right place for the Gothic Knights and our young golf programs to prosper. We look forward to competing against some strong opponents on beautiful courses in the Northeast as our men and women look to join their NJCU peers as championship contenders."
