GREENSBORO, N.C. — The New Jersey City University baseball program was honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Wednesday, July 28, as the organization announced its 2020-21 Team Academic Excellence award winners across all levels of baseball, all the way from high school through to Division I.
To qualify for the ABCA Academic Excellence award, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on 4.0 scale for the entire academic year of 2020-21. The Gothic Knights — who posted a team GPA of 3.153 for the year — were among the 146 NCAA Division III programs to earn the accolade.
Head coach
Jerry Smith has his teams consistently at or near the top of the rankings among NJCU varsity programs in academic excellence year in and year out, and this season was no different. He will look to guide his squad for his 11th season beginning in the Spring of 2022.
