PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced its weekly awards today, Sept. 13, for the week of 6-12th. The New Jersey City University Gothic Knights once again earned a pair of honorees. Senior captain
April Gutierrez (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) of the women's cross country squad was named Runner of the Week, while senior netminder
Nick Linebaugh (Linden, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) of the men's soccer team garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
For Gutierrez, this is the first weekly honor of her career, combining with last season's Second Team All-NJAC accolades. For the second week in a row, she finished in the top five for NJCU as she once again led the Gothic Knights. This time, on Saturday, Sept. 11, in the 6K race at the Purchase College Invite, Gutierrez placed fourth overall out of 38 runners with a time of 22:22.50. That was a career-best for her in the 6K.
Linebaugh also earned his first-career weekly honor from the NJAC. He played and started all three games for NJCU this past week and is now 5-0-1 on the season. The senior saw 253:50 in net and allowed just one goal, good enough for a 0.35 goals against average. He made four saves and recorded his first-career shutout in the Sunday, Sept. 12, double overtime 0-0 tie with Division II foe D'Youville College — the Gothic Knights ultimately claimed the Bryan Karl Tournament championship in PKs, 4-2, with Linebaugh making two crucial stops two attempts in a row as NJCU scored twice to clinch it. He also combined for another shutout in the 2-0 win over Sarah Lawrence College at home at Robert L. McNulty Memorial Field on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
