JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's wrestling program is locked and loaded for the first full season in program history as head coach
Harry Turner officially released the 2021-22 schedule. NJCU, which only competed three times last year due to an abbreviated schedule, will now wrestle at least 18 times this upcoming season, including four separate home dates at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC). All home matches will be live streamed on
GothicVision.
Things get started, Nov. 7, 2021, when the Gothic Knights head down to Coach Turner's old stomping grounds in Piscataway, N.J., for a quadrangular meet at Rutgers University. NJCU will face off with a trio of Division I programs in host Rutgers University, Cleveland State University and Binghamton University. Jersey City then heads out to Collegeville, Pa., on Saturday, Nov. 13, for the Racich Rumble, hosted by Ursinus College. NJCU then returns to the JMAC for its second-ever home match in program history on Saturday evening, Nov. 20, when those same Ursinus Bears come to Jersey City. The grapplers next action happens in Elizabethtown, Pa., on Saturday, Dec. 4, for the Blue Jay Classic, hosted by Elizabethtown College.
Up next, the Gothic Knights head north to Providence, R.I., for a pair of matches against perennial powerhouses Johnson & Wales University and Wabash College on Saturday morning, Dec. 11. It's off to Williamsport, Pa., next for NJCU as the squad competes in the All State Duals, hosted by Lycoming College, on Monday, Dec. 20. Following the holiday break, the Gothic Knights travel up to Brockport, N.Y., for a tri-match with SUNY Brockport and Niagara County Community College on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 8, 2022.
Jersey City remains road warriors for its next three matches as well. First, NJCU heads up to Castleton, Vt., on Saturday, Jan. 15, for a battle with Castleton University and New England College. NJCU then matches up with fellow New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) member school The College of New Jersey on Friday afternoon, Jan. 21, in Ewing, N.J.
Three of the final four regular-season matches of the year will be hosted at the JMAC. First up, the Montclair State University club men's wrestling squad comes to Jersey City on Saturday evening, Jan. 22. Then the Gothic Knights head over the Hudson River for a meeting with perpetual Division III contender New York University in Manhattan on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 29. It's then back-to-back home duals as, first, another historically strong program in SUNY Cortland comes to the JMAC on Friday night, Feb. 4. Jersey City closes out the regular season with a Friday night, Feb. 11, matchup at home against Hunter College.
Postseason begins on Friday, Feb. 25, as the NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Regionals will be held at a to-be-determined location through Sunday, Feb. 27. The Men's Wrestling season will conclude with the NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 11-12, at Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The NCAA did not host a championship last year, but the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) hosted a D-III National Tournament of its own, and eight Gothic Knight grapplers competed at the event- highlighted by senior 149 lber
