GALLOWAY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's golf team opened up play for its second-ever season this afternoon, Thursday, Sept. 16. The Gothic Knights had several high notes on the day, but fell just short in a dual match to Stockton University by the slimmest of margins on the par-72 Blue Heron Pines Golf Course. The Ospreys finished the day with a team total of 469 strokes, to NJCU's 470.
However, individually, the Gothic Knights had the day's low scorer as freshman
Destiny Duhaney (Freeport, Bahamas/Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Academy) finished the afternoon with an 18-hole score of 96 (46-50), outpacing the next-highest scorer by nine strokes. Finishing behind her for NJCU and tying for third overall was another freshman in
Gwendolyne Lopez (Houston, Texas/MacArthur Senior) with an 18-hole round of 113. Senior captain
Elizabeth Bello (Jersey City, N.J./Innovation) and junior
Roxana Martinez (Jersey City, N.J./Innovation) rounded out the team of four Gothic Knights on the afternoon with scores of 126 and 135, respectively.
NJCU returns to action next when the squad travels up to Tunkhannock, Pa., for another dual match, this time with Marywood University on Saturday, Oct. 2. The 18-hole competition against the Pacers will be hosted at Stone Hedge Golf Course.
