JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's soccer team kicked off New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play today, Saturday, Sept. 18, as the Gothic Knights played host to Stockton University on Robert L. McNulty Memorial Field at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. NJCU gave the Ospreys all they could handle throughout the 90 minutes of play, including five shots on goal, however Stockton came away with the 4-0 win.
The Gothic Knights (0-3-2, 0-1-0 NJAC) controlled the pace of play in the early going, thanks in large part to the play of sophomores midfielder
Krysti Alejandro (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) and goalkeeper
Angie Paz (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township). The former attempted three shots on net in a span of just about 16 minutes from the seventh to the 23rd, but all were turned away by the Stockton (5-1-1, 1-0-0 NJAC) keeper. The latter made three stops on the Ospreys' first three on-target attempts, which spanned from the early 14th to late in the 24th.
Stockton was able to get on the board at the start of the 38th minute, but Paz managed to keep it a 1-0 game the rest of the half, making one more stop in the first 45:00 with just 31 seconds remaining until the break. Unfortunately, just over six minutes into the second half, the Ospreys scored once again to make it a 2-0 game. Paz did make one more stop in the 63rd before being relieved in net in the 70th by senior
Cidney Lee-Sam (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge). The new NJCU netminder stopped the first shot she faced in the 74th, but Stockton came back to make it a 3-0 game moments later in the 76th. The Ospreys scored one for posterity in the 88th to close it out.
