Stoker Continues to Rewrite Record Book, Places Third with 36-Hole 147 at Golden Oaks Shootout

FLEETWOOD, PA. — After taking down the 18-hole program record with an even-par 72 in round one of the Golden Oaks Shootout, hosted by Arcadia University at Golden Oaks Golf Club on Friday, Sept. 24, New Jersey City University freshman men's golfer Evan Stoker (Clinton, N.J./Voorhees) finished in third place in the 36-hole tournament following his second round 75 on Saturday, Sept. 25. In total, he ended the tournament on the 6,648-yard, par-72 course with a two-round total score of 147, another program record.

Overall, the tournament was won by Franklin & Marshall College, who led wire to wire and finished with a team score of 585, while Jas Fuhrer of those same Diplomats took home the individual title with a two-round 141 (69-72). Finishing between him and NJCU's Stoker was Domonic Sculti, also of F&M — he ended just one stroke ahead of Stoker at 146 (74-72).

As for the Gothic Knights, the team overall took home 11th place at 697 (350-347) after shaving off three strokes from round one to round two on Saturday. Sophomore Taj Piontkowski (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) improved on his round one by six strokes and shot a collegiate-best on Sautrday with an 83, moving up to 48th place for his final finish. Another freshman who shot a collegiate best on Saturday was Ben Herrick (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial), who placed 52nd overall after improving from round one to round two by seven strokes with an 87 today. Senior Zachary Ware (Fort Lee, N.J./Bergen Community College) tied for 54th with a two-round 197 (95-102).

NJCU takes next weekend off before resuming for its penultimate tournament of the Fall portion of the 2021-22 season. The Gothic Knights will head to the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, Pa., from Saturday to Sunday, Oct. 9-10, for the Mason Dixon Collegiate Classic, hosted by McDaniel College.
