NEWTOWN, Pa. – The New Jersey City University women's wrestling program – receiving votes in
the most recent NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) NCAA Women's Coaches Poll – hit the mat today, Sunday, Jan. 30, for the Gothic Knights first action since mid-December. Jersey City dominated the SEPA All You Need is Faith Tournament in every fact, placing first out of the three competing collegiate programs (Delaware Valley University and Temple University) and capturing three of the four possible individual titles.
Freshman
Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional), competing at 116 pounds, picked up a pair of dominant technical fall victories to place first in her class. Sophomore co-captain
Naomi Henry (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wingate), who is currently the #5-ranked 130-pounder in the NCAA, continued her perfect season and improved to 11-0 with a pair of first-round pins to take home first place. The other sophomore co-captain,
Sandy Guerrero (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) – the #7 ranked 191-pounder in the NCAA – notched two technical fall wins and a first-round pin to go 3-0 and claim the title as well.
