Fallas' Tally in the 65th Not Enough as Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 at TCNJ

NJCU Outshoots Lions 6-5 in the Loss

EWING, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's soccer team, vying for position within the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) standings as the season nears its end, dropped a close road matchup tonight, Saturday, Oct. 22, by a score of 2-1 at The College of New Jersey.

Jersey City (8-4-1, 3-4-1 NJAC) and the Lions (7-9-1, 1-2 NJAC) traded off one shot on goal apiece in over the first 14 minutes before TCNJ struck first early in the 17th to make it 1-0 following a crosser in front of the net. Juniors Sergio Tarrida (Palma de Mallorca, Spain/King Richard III College) and captain Jorkaef Fallas (North Bergen, N.J./Hudson Catholic) tried to even it up in the 22nd and 26th, respectively, but both were turned aside by the Lions' goalkeeper.

TCNJ's third shot on goal of the day was successful once more, making it 2-0 in the 40th. Freshman Juan Vizcaino (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) took an on-target attempt late in the 43rd, followed by senior Chris Castillo (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) early in the 45th, but both were stopped.

NJCU's only shot in the second half made it a one-goal game in the 65th as Vizcaino sent a header pass to the center of the goal and Fallas got his left foot on it to put the ball away for the goal, which made it 2-1. TCNJ also only took one shot on goal in the second just several minutes later in the 70th, but was turned away.

The Gothic Knights had one shot blocked in the 70th and then a corner kick opportunity in the 71st, but those were the last two pushes of the evening for Jersey City in the one-goal loss.

Up Next:
The Green and Gold are scheduled to wrap up their regular-season at home at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 26, in Jersey City, N.J., for their most heated rivalry match of the NJAC slate. Rutgers-Newark comes to the West Side for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff on Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field on what will also be Senior Day.
