READING, Pa. — The New Jersey City University women's volleyball team dropped a three-set match (25-21, 25-15, 25-17) on the road on Thursday evening, Oct. 6, against non-conference opponent Penn State Berks. The Gothic Knights had some strong performances and impressive sequences throughout the night, but it was not enough against the host Nittany Lions.
Jersey City (10-8) saw reigning New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week, senior right-side hitter Paloa Toledo lead all players on the night with a match-best nine kills, adding five digs, two aces and a match-high three total blocks (all solo). Sophomore outside hitter
Brenda Gonzalez (Union City, N.J./Dickinson) was just two kills back of Toledo against Berks (8-6), finishing with seven to go with six digs, an ace and a block.

Rachael Pharo (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) led NJCU and tied her season-high with 11 digs, followed closely by junior setter Syndey Lore. The latter led the Gothic Knights with 17 assists to go with 10 digs for her third double-double of the season and ninth of her career. Senior libero
Katrina Nguyendon (Union, N.J./Union) had seven digs, as well.

After the tough loss, the Gothic Knights return to action at home at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) for another non-conference tilt. Albright College comes to the West Side for a 7:00 p.m. clash tomorrow night, Friday, Oct. 7, on Coach Charlie Brown Court.
