MANHEIM, Pa. — The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released its 2022-23 preseason national and regional rankings for NCAA Division III and a pair of New Jersey City University men's wrestlers were represented.
Senior Jeff Johnson, the first-ever national qualifier in NJCU's program history last season, will kick off 2022-23 as the #10-ranked grappler within the 157-pound division. Johnson is also ranked #2 among all 157-pounders. Johnson ended the 2021-22 year with a 17-8 overall record, including three wins by fall and four major decisions. He placed third at NCAA Mideast Regionals, as well.
Additionally, sophomore Damianlee Torres enters the season ranked #6 in the mideast region at 125 pounds. The second-year Gothic Knight closed out the season at 11-5 overall, including five wins by fall and a major decision. He placed seventh at last year's NCAA Mideast Regionals, as well.
