PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) released its 2022 Men's Soccer All-Conference teams and award winners today, Tuesday, Nov. 1, and the New Jersey City University men's soccer program landed four student-athletes on the list of those recognized.
Leading the way for Jersey City was junior forward
Maximo Vargas (Montevideo, Uruguay/The British Schools), who followed up last year's Honorable Mention accolades with First Team honors this season. The striker led the Gothic Knights in both goals (8) and points (18) and is third in the NJAC in points/game (1.29).
NJCU also had three Honorable Mention selections — sophomore forward
Danny Tobon (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), sophomore back
Jason Suarez (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and senior goalkeeper
Nick Linebaugh (Linden, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep).
Tobon was second on the Gothic Knights in points (14) and led the team in assists (8). He is first in the NJAC in assists and eighth in points/game (0.93). Suarez played the most minutes on the pitch of any Gothic Knight this season, racking up 1,279 as a center back. He notched a pair of assists and held down a backline that limited opponents to just 0.80 goals per game and a .056 shot-on-goal percentage. Last but not least, Linebaugh led the NJAC in goals against average (0.84) — he was the only conference keeper to allow less than a goal per game — and save percentage (.862) and was second in saves per game (5.00) and shutouts (6).
