Rodriguez Picks up First NJAC Player of the Week Honor of the Season

Junior Recognized Following Career-High 33-Point Performance on Thursday at DI Monmouth

November 14, 2022

PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) released its weekly award winners for the previous week of competition today, Monday, Nov. 14, and New Jersey City University junior guard Damaris Rodriguez (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) was named NJAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the first time this season and sixth time in her career.

NJCU opened its 2022-23 season on the road on Thursday, Nov. 10, against Division I foe Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J. The Gothic Knight trailed by 16 to the Hawks in the first half, but thanks to Rodriguez, came all the way back to take a four-point lead midway through the third quarter before falling, 79-70. The preseason All-America point guard poured in a career- and game-best 33 points on 14-of-26 shooting (53.8 FG pct.) to go with a pair of assists – not including the three times she inbounded the ball of a Hawks' defender to herself for quick buckets – two steals and two rebounds.

Up Next:
The Gothic Knights return with one final tune-up before NJAC play begins as NJCU squares off with another Division I foe in Delaware State University on Monday, Nov. 21, in Dover, Del., for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
