LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — In a battle of the two of the top-15 programs in the country, the #15-ranked New Jersey City University Gothic Knights dropped a tough road match by a score of 27-12 on Saturday night, Nov. 19, against #10-ranked Lock Haven University.

Jersey City (0-1) went up 5-0 to start the match as freshman 101-pounder Dyanne Pelaez (Fords, N.J./Woodbridge) earned a win by forfeit. #7-ranked sophomore 109-pounder Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) wrestled tightly in the second match of the night against Kaelani Shufeldt, trailing just 1-0 to start the second period. However, the Bald Eagle (2-0) managed to get the takedown and pin to tie it up at 5-5 overall.

Trailing 9-6, junior Naomi Henry (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wingate) hit the mat for the 130-pound bout. The team co-captain is ranked #8 at 123 pounds and has wrestled exclusively there in 2022-23, but made her season debut in her previously occupied weight class tonight. She went head-to-head with the #4-ranked 130-pound grappler in the Nation in Lily Sherer and the two battled out to a 9-5 decision, in favor of Lock Haven. Henry started off with the lead, but trailed 7-3 after the first period. She started off the second with a takedown to cut it to 7-5, however Sherer ended with her own takedown to bring it to 9-5.

The highlight of the night for the Green and Gold came at 191 pounds. Two-time All-American and junior co-captain Sandy Guerrero (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) officially made her season-debut tonight and, just 1:11 into the second period, secured her first victory and pin of the season. The #8-ranked 191-pounder in the Nation, Guerrero placed eighth at Nationals in 2020-21 and seventh last season after racking up a team-high 18 wins, including 15 wins by fall and two technical falls.
