November 08, 2022

DANBURY, Conn. — The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) released its eight-team field for the 2022 Division III Women's Volleyball Championship and the New Jersey City University women's volleyball team has drawn the #4 overall seed. The Gothic Knights will compete in the ECAC Championships for the first time since the 2016 season. Additionally, NJCU will serve as the host for the weekend tournament, marking the first time the program has filled that role since 2007.

NJCU will host the eight-team quarterfinal round at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) on Saturday, Nov. 12. The Gothic Knights will face #5 seed FDU-Florham at 12:00 p.m. on the East Court, while #1 overall seed and fellow New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) rival Kean University will face off with #8 seed Brooklyn College on the main court simultaneously. The winner of each of those matches will face off on the main court on Sunday, Nov. 13, in the semifinal round at 10:00 a.m.

At 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, #3 seed Grove City College and #6 seed Penn State Behrend will clash on the East Court in the quarterfinal round, while the main court will feature #2 seed Cabrini University and #7 seed Saint Vincent College. Again, the winner of each of those matches will clash at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday on the main court in the second semifinal match. The winners of Sunday's two semifinal matches will then go head to head for the ECAC Championship at 2:00 p.m. on the main court that same day.

Jersey City heads into the weekend at 16-11 overall, including a 3-5 mark in NJAC play. The Gothic Knights are led by Second Team All-Conference senior right-side hitter Paola Toledo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio Catolico San Rafael) and Honorable Mention All-NJAC middle blocker senior Leah Seickendick (Hoboken, N.J./Hudson Catholic). The former leads NJCU in points (301.5) and kills (261), is second in blocks (26.0) and third in digs (158), while the latter leads NJCU in blocks (44.0) and hitting percentage (.251) and is third in kills (155).
