GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — The New Jersey City University women's wrestling team, ranked #16 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Associations (NWCA) NCAA Coaches Ranking, dominated at the Nassau Open on Sunday, Dec. 11. Junior co-captains
Naomi Henry (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wingate) and
Sandy Guerrero (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) each captured their individual weight class titles.
Henry started off with her day with an 11-0 technical fall victory at 123 pounds over Gianna Amendola of #10 East Stroudsburg University in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, Henry — ranked #8 in the nation at 123 — notched another technical fall win, this time at 10-0 over Bridgette Schoultz of Delaware Valley University. Finally, Henry won a massive match in the championship round against her staunch rival, #7-ranked Mia Macaluso of ESU via an 8-5 decision. She is now a team-best 12-3 on the season.
Guerrero, ranked #7 at 191 pounds nationally, was 2-0 with a pair of wins by fall over Sarah Sams of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Gianna Faura of Alvernia University. She is now 6-0 on the season, including five wins by fall.
Sophomore 136-pounder
Kayla Zeppetelli (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park) went 1-1 on the day. After falling in her first match, she picked up a win by fall over Olivia Kinder of Delaware Valley. She now has four wins this season, all by fall.

The Gothic Knights return to action on Saturday, Dec. 17, when they host the first home tri in program history. NJCU welcomes Delaware Valley to the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) for the first match of the day, which is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Then the Aggies face off against #11 Sacred Heart University at 1:00 p.m. before Jersey City hosts the Pioneers at 2:00 p.m. to close out the tri.
