NEW YORK — A small contingent of the New Jersey City University men's and women's track & field squads were in action on Friday, Feb. 11, as the Gothic Knights competed at the Rutgers University Open at The Armory. There was no team scoring on the day.
A handful of Jersey City student-athletes competed on the afternoon, highlighted by a couple key performances. Senior
Fahim Chowdhury (Bayonne, N.J./County Prep) competed as one of just two Division III runners in the men's mile and notched a personal record time of 5:03.54 to place 39th.
The men also competed in the 4x200 meter relay for the first time this indoor season and the squad — made up of senior captain
Dave Etienne (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) and juniors
Jason Garcia (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson),
Roger Campbell (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) and
Tyneil Jackson (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) — posted a respectable time of 1:32.02 to place third in the event, just four seconds off first and only 1.1 seconds out of second.
On the women's side of things, NJCU competed in a trio of individual events, while the women's 4x200 meter relay squad of freshman
Nyla Boyd (Thomson, Ga./Thomson), junior
Tiffany Ortiz (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter), freshman Ashley Adames and junior
Arame Diouf (Weehawken, N.J./Memorial) took home fourth place in 1:59.03.
