JERSEY CITY, N.J. — A day after being named New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week, while then pouring in a game-high 21 points in a tough 56-52 loss at now-#9 Amherst College, sophomore guard Damaris Rodriguez (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) picked up a pair of National accolades today, Tuesday, Feb. 15. For the second time in her career — and first time this season — in both instances, the Gothic Knights' co-captain was named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Division II-III Player of the Week, as well as to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week.

Last week, Rodriguez led Jersey City to a 2-0 record this week with huge wins over Rowan University and Montclair State University. She averaged a near-triple-double over the two games, averaging 37.7 minutes per game. She scored 19.0 points per game to go with 9.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game and currently ranks second nationally in all of Division III with 7.1 assists per game on the season as of today.

She began with a game-high 23 points to go with a game-best 11 assists and a team-high nine rebounds for a near-triple-double and her sixth double-double of the season in the 73-59 win over Rowan at home on Wednesday, Feb. 9. Then, in the first win at Montclair State since 1970 on Saturday, Feb. 12, Rodriguez recorded her third-consecutive double-double and seventh of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with five dimes and two steals over the full 40 minutes in the 59-55 win at the Red Hawks.

After last night's near-upset of the Mammoths, Rodriguez and the rest of the Gothic Knights return to action for their regular-season and NJAC finale tomorrow night, Wednesday, Feb. 16, when Stockton University comes to the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC). The game has all sorts of implications to the potential NJAC Tournament seeding, which will be cemented by the end of the night on Wednesday.
