STATEN ISLAND, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's and women's track & field squads returned once again to Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for another indoor meet on Friday afternoon, Feb. 25, competing at the Fasttrack Last Chance. Headlining the day for the Gothic Knights was sophomore mid-distance runner
Jake Sisk (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway). The team co-captain ran his first-ever 1,000m event, and in doing so set a program record with a time of 2:39.45 to place ninth out of 22 runners, including second among all Division III runners.
Some other strong performances on the men's side of things came from junior
Jose Recinos (Union City, N.J./Union City) in the mile, junior
Roger Campbell (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) in the 400m, freshman
Vladimir Pericles (Elizabeth, N.J./Thomas Edison Academy) in the 800m, junior
Adnan Kpodo (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) in the 1,000m and the men's 4x800m relay team.
Recinos placed 33rd overall in the mile with a time of 4:52.51, while Campbell was 24th out of 43 runners in the 400m with a time of 53.42. Pericles PRed in the 800m with a time of 2:12.94, topping his previous mark by nearly a full second. Kpodo finished two spots behind Sisk in the 1,000m with a time of 2:51.14. Jaime Tlatelpa (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter), Kpodo, Sisk and Recinos placed third overall with a time of 8:43.20.
On the women's side, there were several personal records. Senior
Annaliza Lagman (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) topped her previous PR in the 60m hurdles by 00.01 seconds with a time of 12.25. Senior captain
April Gutierrez (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) PRed in the mile with a time of 6:08.36, just under a second faster than her previous mark. In the 500m, freshmen
Nyla Boyd (Thomson, Ga./Thomson) and
Ashley Adames () each notched PRs — Boyd with a 1:28.51 to place ninth, including first among Division III runners, and Adames in 10th (second among DIII) with a time of 1:29.03. The former topped her previous mark by a hair under four full seconds, while the latter topped her last PR nearly four seconds, as well.
Competing in the triple jump, juniors
Polina Agutina (Evaptoria, Ukraine/Number 6) and
Arame Diouf (Weehawken, N.J./Memorial) performed well. The reigning New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) champion, Agutina placed sixth with a leap of 10.58m, while Diouf PRed with a jump of 9.30m. Also on the field side of things sophomore
Shantel Worrell (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) placed ninth in the shotput with a toss of 8.98m, while freshman
Destiny Sabb (Irvington, N.J./North Star Academy) notched a PR with a throw of 7.09m.
