JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's wrestling program, already making history with every accomplishment, was announced as a varsity sport at NJCU in 2019, making it the first collegiate women's wrestling program in the state of New Jersey. On Sunday, Feb. 6, the Gothic Knights will accomplish another historical feat when they host the first-ever collegiate women's wrestling match in New Jersey.
NBC 4 New York recently highlighted the program ahead of Sunday's extraordinary match.

As mentioned, the Gothic Knights will be home at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) on Sunday for a scheduled 12:00 p.m. match against East Stroudsburg University. Both teams are currently receiving votes in the latest
NCAA Women's National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 15 Poll. Additionally, there are three nationally ranked individual wrestlers competing on Sunday: NJCU sophomore co-captains
Naomi Henry (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wingate) (
#5 at 130 pounds) and
Sandy Guerrero (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) (
#7 at 191 pounds), as well as ESU's Mia Macaluso (
#7 at 130 pounds). Both Henry and Guerrero earned All-America honors at the 2020-21 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships in their respective weight classes.
This is the second meeting between the two programs, as the Gothic Knights topped the Warriors in East Stroudsburg, Pa., back on Nov. 14 of this season.
NJCU won the match in exciting fashion as Guerrero notched a walk-off pin at 1:20 into the first period to seal the 24-22 victory. Check out the full photo album from that match, courtesy of
